Short answer

A renewal is a fresh check of the current legal conditions and your current healthcare position. Work, an S1, beneficiary recognition or another public entitlement may now provide evidence that did not exist when the first visa was issued.

Recheck the exact residence category

Use the current renewal information for the authorisation you actually hold. Initial visa instructions and renewal rules are not interchangeable.

Establish what changed

Check whether you or a family member started work, registered with Social Security, obtained an S1 or became a recognised beneficiary during the residence period.

If private insurance continues

Confirm that the policy is active for the required period and that renewal has not introduced co-payments, exclusions or a different network. Obtain a current certificate where requested.

Keep evidence of continuity

Retain entitlement decisions, health-card registration, policy schedules and payment evidence. A card alone may not explain the legal basis of the cover.
