Use the DGSFP public registers to check whether the insurer behind a proposed policy is authorised to operate in Spain. Search the legal entity shown in the policy documents, not merely the product or intermediary’s trading name.

Find the legal insurer

The quotation and policy schedule should name the entity carrying the insurance risk. An agent, comparison site or assistance company is not necessarily the insurer.

Search the appropriate register

The DGSFP registers include Spanish entities and qualifying EEA entities operating through establishment or freedom of services. Match the name and identifying details carefully.

Check the relevant activity

Registration should cover the class of insurance being offered. A company’s presence somewhere in a register does not validate every product or sales claim.

Keep a record

Save the result or note the entity details and date checked. Authorisation confirms regulatory status, not that a policy meets a particular visa or personal need.
