A contract may give hospital admission, surgery, childbirth or advanced diagnostics their own waiting periods. The exact schedule belongs in the contract.
Waiting period versus exclusion
A waiting period delays a potentially covered benefit. An exclusion removes defined treatment or circumstances from cover. They are not interchangeable.

UGE guidance for international teleworkers rejects private policies with waiting periods. Requirements for other routes must be checked against their own current instructions.
Check personal terms
Read the general wording and the personalised schedule. Article 3 of Spain’s Insurance Contract Act requires clauses limiting an insured person’s rights to be specially highlighted and specifically accepted in writing. A marketing statement about immediate cover cannot override the contract.
