General-regime family reunification

The person bringing the family member to Spain must satisfy the conditions for that route. Current regulations include healthcare cover among the matters to establish. Use the Ministry information sheet for the reagrupante and the family member rather than an NLV checklist.

Family members of EU citizens

This route follows the EU-family residence framework. The healthcare position can depend on the EU citizen's status as a worker, self-employed person, student or self-sufficient resident. A worker's position should not automatically be treated as the same as that of a self-sufficient person.

Public entitlement as a beneficiary

A qualifying family member may be recognised as a beneficiary of someone covered through Spanish Social Security. Confirm that recognition and complete the regional health-service registration for each person. Relationship evidence alone is not a health card.

Families accompanying students

Long-duration study rules can require accompanying family members to hold healthcare cover. The student's certificate should not be assumed to include them. Check names, policy dates and the condition applying to the accompanying-family route.

Other work and mobility routes

Workers, teleworkers and people covered by cross-border coordination can have different evidence. Establish whether Spanish Social Security, an S1 or another arrangement covers the family member before buying a private policy solely for an application.

Build the document list from the route

Start with the official information sheet and proof of the family relationship. Then confirm who must be insured, the required period and whether every applicant must be named. A certificate produced for another visa category may omit decisive wording.

What to do next

Confirm which family route applies before preparing healthcare evidence. General reunification, EU-family residence and beneficiary recognition are not interchangeable.
